We Did It! 1st ENAMELING CONGRESS 2025
After less than 18 months of activity, the Association of the Polish Enameling Industry (SPPE), with the hospitality of the Qubus Congress Center in Legnica, organized the 1st Enameling Congress from October 1–3, 2025.
The aim of the meeting was to address the key question: “Is enamel a thing of the past or the future?”. Experts from Poland and across Europe were invited to participate. The Congress attracted over 85 participants representing 39 companies from 11 countries. Gathering so many specialists in what might seem a niche industry is a significant achievement, likely marking the first large-scale gathering of the enameling industry in Central and Eastern Europe.
This two-day event offered attendees the opportunity not only to listen to insightful presentations but also to network in the corridors and at exhibition booths organized by leading companies covering all areas of the enameling process – from raw material suppliers and technology providers to equipment manufacturers.
To diversify the delivery of information, the organizers divided the Congress into three main blocks:
1-Process Presentations – covering modern solutions used in the raw materials, equipment with reduced energy consumption and less burden on the environment
2- Expert Debate – exploring the Congress’s central question: “Is enamel a thing of the past or the future?”
3- Case Studies – where SPPE members were able to share with participants the solutions they had implemented in their plants to solve problems.
The Congress was opened by SPPE President Kamila Leżak, who briefly presented the Association. The SPPE was officially registered in the National Court Register (KRS) on June 18, 2024, following the Founding Committee meeting on May 22, 2024, in Wrocław.
Koen Lips, Chairman of the European Enameling Association (EEA), welcomed Polish enameling professionals to the European community (SPPE has been a member of EEA since April 2025) and outlined the EEA’s focus areas. Through full participation in the European association, SPPE, as a member of the European association, through its full participation has the opportunity to influence and suggest changes to European legislation in the field of enameling.
Then, the experts- in their presentations, discussed the technical and technological issues of the various stages of the enameling. Key technical presentations included:
-
Arkadiusz Ptak (KIESOW Poland) – “Physicochemical processes occurring during the preliminary treatment of metals”
-
Koen Lips (PEMCO International) – “Update of European Regulations for Water Heater Enamels 2027”
-
Ismail Keskin (KESKIN) – “Fish Scale Resistant Enamels”
A debate on “Is Enameling a Thing of the Past or the Future?” was moderated by Bogdan Piechota (SPPE) with participation: Marek Budziszewski (BASF Chemetall), Johan Strubbe (PEMCO International), Marco Ghirimoldi (WAGNER), Paolo Colombo (TRASMETAL), Edyta Sokołowska (NIBE BIAWAR), Kamila Leżak (WEBER). Despite the large expansion of painting processes and the introduction of products made of stainless steel, the revolutionary changes in enameling that took place during the 20th century continue to develop this industry. Certain applications remain difficult or impossible to replace with alternative coatings. There are areas where enamel coatings are difficult to replace, and in some cases, even impossible. The 21st century has seen a rapid increase in water heater production, and their corrosion resistance, durability, and aesthetic appeal are driving increased interest among architects and heat exchanger designers. Overall, it can be said that “Old Enamel,” known for almost 3,000 years, still has a bright, but a future full of challenges.
Of course, it would not be possible to listen to all, even the most interesting, lectures without properly integrated coffee breaks and lunch. And attendees has more key technical presentations included:
-
Ewa Choromańska (BASF Chemetall) – “CleanoSpectrol – a New Method for Determining Surface Cleanliness After Degreasing”
-
Paolo Colombo (TRASMETAL) – “Drying and Dehydration in Enameling process”
-
Vito Pirulli (NewFurnace) – “Electric Enameling Furnaces – Overview”
-
Karine Sarrazy (VIBRANTZ TECHNOLOGIES) – “Materials for Food Contact – Standards and Regulations”
-
Joaquim Ferrer (FILINOX) – “Radiant Tube Design and Differences in Heat-Resistant Steels”
-
Petra Blažič (EMO FRITE) – “Implementing Green Transformation in Enameling – EMO FRITE Vision”
An interesting thematic block was the Case Study session, allowed SPPE members to present practical solutions that significantly improved enameling operations in their processes:
-
Anna Bartosiak (WEBER) – “Environmental Aspects in Enameling”
-
Dariusz Gorączka (Amica S.A.) – “How We Optimized Enameling Processes at Amica”
-
Patrycja Rogaczewska (B/S/H) – “Traceability – Introduction to Industry 4.0”
-
Michał Sarol (JØTUL) – “Cooling of Enamel Suspensions”
After the program concluded, President Kamila Leżak thanked the participants for attending the Congress’s substantive part and invited them to a gala dinner. Participants had another opportunity to exchange experiences and discuss the organization and content of the 1st Enamel Congress. As participants emphasized, simultaneous translation into English was an important organizational aspect, and in the case of the foreign speaker, into Polish, this allowed even those not fluent in English to fully participate.
The 1st Enamel Congress, organized by the Association of the Polish Enamel Industry, concluded with a gala banquet where, at round tables and with soft, atmospheric music, participants continued their discussions and shared their impressions of the successful event.
Participant Feedback:

Edyta Sokołowska
Chemical Process Specialist at Biawar Production Sp. z o.o.
My assessment of the congress? Of course, the only possible one, meaning excellent. The Enamel Congress is a place where we can meet passionate and experienced people. There are fewer specialists in the enamel industry than in other areas of protective coatings, so the exchange of knowledge and practice is of exceptional value. I would like enamel products made in Poland to be permanently associated with high quality and reliable durability. Events like this congress truly bring us closer to this goal.

Technology Manager – Chief Enameler – Amica S.A.
Looking forward to the 2025 Enamel Congress, I feel doubly satisfied. As a co-organizer, I am immensely proud that the SPPE team successfully completed this project, bringing together such an impressive number of professionals and enthusiasts of the enamel industry in one place. This proves that, as an Association, we are capable of taking on and realizing unusual challenges. Our team is a close-knit group of enthusiasts who confidently pursue ambitious goals. On the other hand, as a participant, the SPPE Congress was an indispensable source of knowledge about the hottest and most crucial topics in the industry. Presentations on standards approving enamel for contact with food and drinking water are currently an absolute priority and the essence of development. By discussing these topics, we increase our awareness and prepare for the upcoming challenges.
